In August of 2009 the owner of a quarry in Brazoria County contacted the GSAR regarding skeletal matter recovered from apparently ancient context. The material was thought to have come from a late Pleistocene strata but, after conferring with the employee who had found it and examining the geology, it was determined to have come from an Archaic context.

The GSAR along with a number of volunteers from Texas State University and Stephen F. Austin University excavated in the quarry to both better understand the geology and to look for additional skeletal materials. With the permission of the quarry owner, small samples were taken for radiocarbon testing by Dr. Tom Stafford.
